The Sturgeon Creek bridge repairs have been delayed because the contractor revised its schedule. The bridge is on County Road 33 crossing Sturgeon Creek and was originally built in the 1960s to facilitate the construction of a marina. The $1 million project will involve taking off the superstructure and pavement and removing the supporting girders.
The abutments will be refurbished and new girders, pavement and superstructure installed.
When completed the bridge will also be a bit wider to accommodate bike lanes. The project tender was awarded to Facca construction of Windsor. It is scheduled to be completed in April - prior to birders making their annual trips to Point Pelee National Park.During the bridge closure, traffic is being detoured to County Road 20, Mersea Road 12/Noble Side Road to Mersea Road C.
